Embracing the Sorrows

March 10, 2024

Series: 2 Corinthians

Jesus is the hero who loves to redeem the pains of living in this broken world. In 2 Corinthians 6, Paul juxtaposes how the world treats him with how God treats him. The world views and treats him as unknown, dying, and punished, sorrowful, poor, and having nothing (vs. 9). Paul celebrates this poverty and weakness, however, because through it, the world is shown the greatness of God. For, through Christ, God knows Paul, has made him alive, filled him with the Spirit, and has given him spiritual riches.

How do we apply this to our lives? The world will tell you to satisfy your appetites as the way to true joy. But when our appetites are our master, we will experience only sorrow. When Christ is our Master we will find true rejoicing because we can take our sorrows to our Master and see them, and our lives, redeemed.
